Mid-Year “Food 4 Thought” Conference 2015

Mid-Year "Food 4 Thought" Conference 2015The half day, Mid-Year ‘ Food 4 Thought ’ Conference, held at the Portuguese Club, Milnerton, on Saturday 7 November 2015, was attended by 170 Lions & Leos and approximately 30 guests.

DG Sue was presented with a Melvin Jones Fellowship by Lion President Sundru of Kirstenbosch.

The Leos used their artistic talent to decorate the tables with donated vegetables which in turn were given to a school feeding scheme. Delegates were asked to bring tins of food which will be distributed by the Leos to various food projects.

We were fortunate to have two excellent guest speakers; Michelle Wridgeway on Diabetes Awareness and Jeremy Opperman, with his dog Gatsby, on SA Guide Dogs. Those present had the opportunity of meeting ‘our’ two black Labrador puppies, Leo and Melvin, who thoroughly enjoyed all the attention.

1st VDG Lance Maytham, assisted by PDG Paula Lang, presented the Long Service Awards. PDG Denis Slade was present to receive his 55 Year Award, but unfortunately, the other recipient, Cyril Fisher, was unable to attend.

The Conference concluded with the announcement of the top three Peace Poster Winners, two of whom were present to receive their prizes.

Table View Lions – Woolworths Fashion Show

This event is in aid of a school bus for the West Riding Primary School. Learners at this school are from a multi-cultural community, mainly from a low socio-economic background or single parent and/or single income homes. Therefore extra funding from parents is impossible, and even payment of school fees is irregular at best. The educators give admirable care to their learners. Not only do they give of their private time to develop the children’s progress thus reaching high pass rates, they have also introduced a feeding scheme providing breakfasts, lunches, and even food parcels for some pupils to take home.

Table View Lions

Lions Clubs – we help where help is needed in our own communities and around the world. The world’s largest service club organization.

Lions give Sight, serve youth, assist the aged, the disabled, the disadvantaged. In fact wherever there is a need there are Lions.

Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need schoolbooks, with seniors who need transportation and with people we may never meet.

We’re led by talented, dedicated volunteer leaders from around the world. And, we’re supported by the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), which helps to fund Lions humanitarian projects.
