The Hero of the Year Award was initiated to honour men and woman who have excelled in community work.
Every Lions Club in our District is invited to nominate a Hero from their community who had made or continues to make a difference. All the nominees are known by the nominating Lions club who are able to confirm the contributions made by each nominee.
The selection criteria was based on four categories
Initiative: What initiative was put into the Project or Service? Here we also looked at the resources that were available to the nominee.Impact: What impact did this project or service have on the community? (How many people did this project reach?) How many people is this project still going to continue to reach? How long has this project been in operation?
Value: What value did this project or service add to the community that it serves? (How has this project or service changed the lives of the community?)
Dedication: What dedication has the nominee shown in serving the community?
The Hero of the Year was presented with the Lions District 410A Louis Volks Humanitarian Award and a cash prize that was generated through the nominee entrance fee paid by our clubs. The winners nominating club will administer the cash donation and will work with the Hero on their projects to the greater benefit of the community.
